Who operates the Institute?
A group of professionals who are experts on health and health related issues with broad experience in different fields of action.

What type of projects does the Institute support?
The Institute promotes the fair development of the Latin American region through three directives:

  • Own initiatives. These projects respond to the prospective and analysis work performed inside the Institute in close consultation with its Board of Directors and advising committees. In general, the Institute will allocate most of its resources to these projects.
  • External Initiatives. These projects are the result of the work, creativity and commitment of other institutions related to health activities that add value and multiply the impact of the Institute’s actions. In this regard, the Institute has four main programs:

We recommend that you visit the Institute´s website (www.salud.carso.org) on a regular basis to get the latest information on our calls for proposals, scholarships, and other programs.

Are there specific dates for the submission of proposals?
The CHI tries to maintain flexible schemes, thus, it has funds opened all year round, which are subject to budgetary availability. We advise you to access the Investment Funds section.

Do projects that are supported obtain the total amount (100%) applied for?
All proposals must have an element of co-funding in order to be considered by the CHI. Likewise, the Institute has different item price scales which will be used as a benchmark during the analysis and evaluation of proposals process.

The amounts to be funded will be subject to the strength of the proposal, the established guidelines for each fund and budgetary availability.

Who decides what projects to support?
The Selection Committee of the Carso Health Institute assesses the proposals and depending on their strength and scope, decides which ones to fund. The decisions made by the Committee are final.

Can the same organization receive funds for different projects at the same time?
Each project is considered according to its strength and scope. It does not matter if the organization is currently implementing another project funded by the CHI.

What happens if an organization has already received support from the Institute in the past?
Each project is considered according to its strength and scope. Regarding proposals from previous CHI implementers, the completed project´s outcomes and progress reports will be taken into consideration.

How often does the Committee meet?
The Selection Committee holds a meeting every month to evaluate the different proposals submitted to the Institute.
